On June 12th, we said "Till we meet again" to our dear fifteen year old Poppy. Poppy came to us at age 1 1/2. She had been born in a foster home, the offspring of a Shih Tzu and a traveling man. For the first 1 1/2 years of her life she lived in an adoptive home that could not provide for her properly, and the rescue group took her back. That is where our story began....she joined Blake and me and our two schnauzer's, Roxie and Rascal. She was a dear, friendly, independent soul who loved to hunt, to clean out the dishwasher and to snuggle warm against you at night. Her personality was more that of a cat than a dog.
A few months ago she lost her vision, and along with her dementia and kidney failure, life became a downward spiral for her, her independence fading away. There comes a time when you just know. We spent her final day on this earth intentionally, giving extra loving and treats she had been denied due to her kidney failure, and extra Xanax to calm her ever increasing anxiety...it was a good day.
Saying good bye is hard, though, even when you know it is right.
Run free, sweet Poppy.....with Rascal and Rugby.....till we meet again.
Dear Christi shared this with me....
Take Care,
Jennie
