Slow Sunday Stitching

Today my slow stitching (linking up at Kathy's) will be replaced with a little slow hooking. There is that same meditative approach involved, especially on a rug like this scrappy rug. I am trying very hard not to overthink my color choices. (You can really tell that I am a dark and dull kind of Hooker.)  After all, in the olden days they would have just put whatever was left from previous projects right on in there, correct? So, here is my progress thus far...,,
Three new rectangles. They look a bit off kilter here, but it is just the way they are stretched on the frame.

And here is the rug....the new guys are starting to fill in the other end.
Those bright whites have definitely got to go!

Friday night was a sleepless night. Rather than waste it in misery, I headed to the sewing room. And these...
Progressed to this....
Sorry for the messy photo, but you get the idea.  Only 15 more star blocks to complete ...those go quickly with all of the components already made....and I can start setting it together.  It is a bit busy for my taste, but I learned a lot making it. And I am thrilled that I haven't allowed it to become a UFO. Go me....LOL!!

This is my latest Glorious Hexagon, a Sharon. The points are made from a Kaffe Fassett Feathers fabric.
I took a couple of hours this week to sort the paper pieces for months 4-8. I lack 5 hexies completing month 3. But with the organizing project going on, they just haven't gotten much attention.

I tried to get a good photo of the growing Mattie, but by the time I focus the camera, she is up and gone!! Maybe you can get an idea of how she is growing with this one....
A sweet girl, but still 100% puppy.

Take Care,
Jennie

  1. Mattie is a beauty and big dogs are puppies until they are at least 8 years old. Ben is still a playful pup with a playful heart but then he gets tired.

I think your quilts are great but LOVE your geo hooked blocks best. You're making me jealous.

  2. Do you start in the center of the rectangles for hooking and work out or do it the opposite way?

  3. Just love, love your geo hooked block-think it would look perfect in front of my kitchen sink, guess it should be the next rug I design, thanks for the inspiration.

  4. You've made lots of progress. That quilt is a bit busy but stunning!
Dark + dull hooker = dirty hooker :)
Mattie is getting to be quite the big girl.
    Hugs :)

  5. Your hooked rug will be fabulous. Years ago I hooked a 4"x6" "persian" rug for my daughters doll house using very thin wool thread. That is my only experience "hooking". It was fun and i would have continued in that path if I had not discovered quilting.
Your star block quilt is stunning as is your feather hexie block.

  6. I'm so far behind reading blogs, Jennie....

I think the colors in your rug are beautiful together and it looks very comfortable and comforting. It would make a great quilt, too. Yes, I agree, they would have used strips left over from other projects. I think that's part of the beauty of a rug like this for me -- lots of different colors of leftovers but all in some kind of order.

You're making good progress with your stars. Good for you that it's not a UFO. I always love to see the kaleidoscope effect of the perfectly cut and pieced little hexagons. I admire them all the more because I know I would never have the patience or precision to make them.
