Jim Scott Garden Tour

Yesterday a group of fellow gardeners travelled to Lake Martin, AL to visit the most incredible and enchanting gardens of Jim Scott. You can read about it here...http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/gardens/lakeside-garden-design-ideas.
Here are a few photos that I took.

Then, today our Master Gardener class visited the University of Georgia Demonstration Gardens in Griffin, GA.

Two days of gardening inspiration....My brain is on overload!!!

This great guy is our local Papa John's Pizza Asst. Manager. When they ordered visors to honor Breast cancer, he had the grey brain cancer ribbon added to his in honor of Rob. Makes tears come to my eyes every time I see it.

Finally. A Slow Stitching Sunday

It has been awhile since I enjoyed a Slow Stitching Sunday (linking up with Kathy) but I claimed today just for that purpose, and it was lovely.

My focus for the afternoon was Glorious Hexagons, and I am making progress. With these last two Nicoles, I have finished set #1.

I started out with what turned out to be a rather dull color scheme.....because that is my norm. But I am determined to make this quilt sparkle, so I am introducing more color as I go along. I incorporated some of my dulls in this set, and will add others as I go along.

My last post featured grandson, Robert's accomplishments and activities. Today I am moving on to his sister, Sara Ashley's. SA faced the struggle of learning because of Dyslexia and ADHD. She has been in the very special learning environment of The Bedford School, a school for children with learning differences, since first grade. To say that she has thrived there would be an understatement. This year, at her completion of Middle School, she was awarded the First Place Art Award, Aaron Turner Character Award, Gold Bear Award (GPA 3.5 or higher), Citizenship Award and English Award (highest grade in middle school).

And she has been accepted into The Heritage School, her school of choice, for her freshman year of HS. Heartwarming accomplishments for this young lady who started her school career with so many challenges.

She, Rob and Christi attended the Rolex Horse Show in Lexington, KY last month. They had a great time, despite the rainy weather, and she got to meet lots of her Instagram friends!

And she had fun with her next favorite pastime (second only to horses), photography.
Got to love this sweet, smart and beautiful granddaughter of mine.

Gardening has taken up much of my time lately. We had a bumper crop of Spring weeds due to the mild, damp winter....and there are always plants to move and new ones to be added. Here are a few things growing in our garden.

Avery's Teardrop Finished!

A few months ago Cee Rafuse, from Diary of a Rugmaker, generously sent me a partially finished penny rug that she knew I coveted. It was a lovely and generous surprise. I so loved the pattern and had missed buying the kit when it was available. Last week I finally finished it....

Today was quilter's Mail heaven...
The new sampler box from Fat Quarter Shop, filled to the brim with wonderful things....I am delighted!!! Then, the new Quiltmania and another incredible penny rug kit from Cee (her Etsy shop is Earlystylepennyrugs....just in case, you know).  What a lucky girl I am!!!

The end of the year brings lots of good things for the grands.....here are a few of Robert's highlights....
Happy 17th Birthday!!
Named Student Athlete of the Week for Newnan High.
Junior-Senior Prom night.
Lettering in Tennis for the third year.
And winning the Academic Award and Most Improved at his Tennis Awards Night.
He's a great kid and I couldn't be prouder of him.

Mattie and Daisy getting a little chair time.

Happy Trails, Diane

On Thursday Laura, Kathie, Diane and I had our last "Eric Day" (named after our previous hooking teacher, Eric Sandberg) as a foursome.

You see, our dear Diane is moving to West Virginia with her hubby who is taking on a new career. We are beyond sad to see her go, but know it is right for her....she will be moving into a lovely home close to her sister and mother. But, oh, how we will miss her sweetness and talent and friendship. She made us better people.
Happy Trails, sweet friend.

Here is a peek at what I have been stitching....
Fabrics so not me, but so much fun. Kathie, Laura and I are going to Intown Quilters for the Glorious Hexagon class that is meeting monthly.

Rob spent several days at Reel Recovery up in Virginia. It was a wonderful retreat for men with cancer diagnoses.....Learning to fly fish and share hope with one another.

And this is me presenting a Can't Never Could scholarship to a beautiful high school senior who has maintained a 4.0 GPA, participated in HS activities and worked to help her family financially while her dad battles liver cancer. Congratulations, Brianna!!

Finally,  my sister and BIL celebrated 61 years of marriage and his 98th birthday (with my niece, Faye).

Ain't it the truth????

Dogwood ATHA Rug Show

The members of Dogwood ATHA enjoyed our Spring Hook In yesterday. As always, it was a great event.....vendors, friendships, door prizes, a program in Saori weaving, and, of course, a rug show.

Following are a few of the rugs. Unfortunately, several had gone home before I got around to photographing them.

Tonight was Prom night for Robert...

And Jackson's baseball team, coached in part by his dad, was undefeated in their league. Way to go, boys!!!

Take care,
Jennie
