Still Slow Stitching Glorious Gardens

Just warning you that I am still Slow Sunday Stitching the Glorious Gardens hexies....but I am much closer...only eight to go.

Then I will be setting them for more than awhile.

Christi and Sara Ashley added the cutest member to their family this weekend.

This cute little rescue pup is about six months old and is some sort of chihuahua mix. Honestly, she looks like a mini German Shepherd.

At any rate, she is darling and smart....and I think they all needed each other.

And I think she loves her big sister, Maya...who has also been missing Rob.

Random Scrap Challenge

I really had no intention of joining in on this great challenge this year, irregardless of how flexible and how much fun Angela over at So Scrappy  makes it. I know you feel this coming.....BUT, I ran across this irresistible quilt on Pinterest this morning and knew it would be the perfect, brainless project...

A gazillion little scrappy nine patches set on point. This one is a Nancy Zieman reproduction of an antique. I am in love. So, this afternoon I will be pulling out some light blues to play along.

More GGs. I am rocking these hexies!!

Planning

As I read through the NY’s postings of many of the wonderful blogs I follow, I find myself overwhelmed by the detailed lists of goals each are setting. They are wonderful and ambitious and I wish I was there, but the truth is, I am not. Getting through each day, worrying about my sweet family and getting past the loss of Rob is about all of the challenge I feel up to at this point. Don’t misunderstand me, we are not wallowing in misery, but this new normal is just taking some time...and I am okay with that. All this being said, to get back to the subject of goal setting. I do want to set some goals and to accomplish projects. I am thinking that small, weekly goals might work best for me now. For some reason, setting goals at the end of a week seems better for me, too.
So here goes...my crafting goals for the coming week..
1. Finish stitching the final 14 Glorious Gardens full hexies
2. Finish the orange/green hooked Homespun Medallion square
3. Plan the next Homespun Medallion row
4. Finish the last First Friday Block
5. Find/print First Friday finishing instructions
6. Repair Blake’s jacket
7. Repair Blake’s jeans.

Will be back to this list next week to see how I did.

Today I have been busy prepping the the final GG blocks so that they will be ready for stitching.

With the usual helpers...

Here are my latest GGs.....

Slowly Moving Forward

Three more GG rosettes added to the stack.

This one I love, and I am not really even a cat person.

There is something rather organic about this one. The fruits, I guess....LOL.

Need to throw these all out on the table tomorrow and start filling in to balance my colors.

Nothing else going on here....just trying to stay warm.

GO DAWGS!!!

This one was for Rob, the consumate UGA Alum and fan. Sara Ashley wore his lucky jersey. I just have to believe he was smiling down on the Rose Bowl.

Lots of progress on Glorious Gardens. I now have 68 of the 94 rosettes completed and several more prepped.
I am linking up at Elm Street Quilts for their
One Monthly Goal, and will set a goal of completing the prepping of the final 26 rosettes.

There are several partials for the borders, but I will deal with those as I get to them. Today I ordered the paper pieces for the joining triangles and diamonds...and that fabric is already purchased.

Here are my latest completions...

This cute little Tula mouse adds a touch of whimsy.

This is one of my favorites. Love big, blousy roses.

Good Bye 2017

Finishing up 2017 with these three blocks.....

I finished quite a few projects this year, but would like to complete more. Right now I don’t feel inclined to make goals...perhaps later. I can say that I want to be better at following through on projects. I also want to start and complete a nice hand appliqué project. Beyond that, I will just approach things as they come.

2017 has undoubtedly been one of the most difficult years of my life. But it has also been filled with moments of great beauty. I pray that 2018 will be simpler, with fewer ups and downs and certainly without such loss. I pray that my family can be happy, make new memories and relish the old. I pray that we can continue to feel the arms of God and dear friends around us. And that we can offer some of the love we have received back to others.

I pray the best for all of you dear friends. Happy New Year!!

Yesterday

Yesterday Rob was laid to rest in the red Georgia clay of the family farmland he loved so dearly. It is a resting place he will share with many of us family members in the years to come. And Christi is already working with someone to take this bare site and make it beautiful....just as Rob wanted.

This is a reflection of Christi and their little dog Maya visiting the gravesite this morning. Their farmhouse retreat and lake are to the right. The latest Caring Bridge post is
here.

Ashley gave me the cutest bunny vase for Christmas. I could hardly wait to fill her little ears with flowers!

This is my progress thus far on assembling the Fussy Cut Stars. Four large circles and four half circles to go before I start joining the rows together.

Today was a stay in my jammies kind of day. Lots of piddling around the house....and putting the Christmas decorations away. Tomorrow might just call for some stitching and reading time.

Another Day on Slow Down Mode

The last two days have been relatively slow, giving me an opportunity to prop my feet up, stitch a bit and read a magazine.

Two more Glorious Gardens hexies were added to the stack.

These are on the bright side, but there will be plenty of darker ones to calm them.

Once again, I had a helper...

And a visitor for the day who also enjoyed Mattie’s company.

And the princess, Daisy, just looked on.

Tomorrow we will go to the newly fashioned cemetery at Ebenezer Stone Farm and lay sweet Rob to rest. He will overlook their farmhouse and pond on the land he so loved......land owned by his family for generations in the Meriwether County countryside. We will have a nice family dinner afterwards at the farmhouse and share memories. I have baked his favorite Red Velvet Cake. It will be good and beautiful and bittersweet.

A Little Stitching

This afternoon I took the opportunity to step back from the events of the last few weeks, prop my feet up and do a little stitching. My mind and body needed the respite.

I had prepped some hexies for the Glorious Gardens quilt, and that seemed to be the perfect mindless project.
Here’s what I was able to accomplish:

And here is my helper...

Good advice at times like this...
