Mary Brown Check In

I am in N.C. at a rug hooking class, and I almost forgot about checking in with my Mary Brown progress. 

I met my goal of two more blocks this month....yay! This was my OMG, so I am doubly glad to have achieved this.

Looks like I need to add some blues and purples in the next blocks. I will be shooting for the next two blocks in February, as I work myself across the top section of this quilt.

Slow Hooking Sunday

Today my slow stitching was actually a little hooking time spent with The Reader.

In reality, there was as much reverse hooking as there was hooking, but I did make a bit of progress. Linking up with Kathy at Slow Sunday Stitching.

Significant progress was made on the 2018 FQS Designer BOM. 









The final two blocks are cut out and ready to assemble . Then it will be on to the setting. I haven’t peeked at the pattern yet, but they always have unique settings.

More progress has happened on Mary Oakley.

Such a sweet sampler. It is a pure pleasure to stitch.

Attended the Inspired Garden Symposium yesterday at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens with a group of gardening buddies. Despite a very gray and gloomy day, the garden still held beauty.

Happy Birthday Christi

It’s hard to believe that my eldest is actually forty nine. One more year till the big 5-0! That means that I am really old.  Our family celebrated with dinner here last night ....her usual, chicken enchiladas and fixings.

Felt really good to see those smiles. This has been a difficult year for our family.

They also added another pup to their family. Like mother, like daughter.

This is Joy....

She’s a mini goldendoodle. So cute. Almost like my other daughter’s pup, Coach.

I finished Block 5 of the 2018 Designer BOM.

I struggled with this one.....and it was all due to my inattentiveness (is that a word?). I made mistakes cutting and stitching...ughhhh. But I forged through, and like the block.

Made it to the halfway point on the hearts - 60 finished. And 30 more hearts prepped, just need to cut the backgrounds.


Finished off the face and ears on Roxie. I have moved on to the body. It doesn’t look like much yet. We’ll see.


The Grady Lunch Bunch met at City BBQ in Decatur on Thursday. Good food and better company.

PHD 2020 Update

Today is the 15th, time for the mid month check in for the Projects Half Done. Check in at this link and see what others have done. 

I worked on three of the 14 on my list...1, 2, and 9. Read about my progress below......

I am excited to say that I have my first quilt top finish for 2020!!!  I had been putting off adding the borders to Pecking Order for several months. Why?? I hate handling the quilt top as it gets larger. I like blocks...I know, crazy. This afternoon I told myself that this was absolutely ridiculous. It took me about an hour and a half from cutting and measuring to putting the finished top on the design wall.

It feels so good to mark that off the list!! This was #2 on my list.

#1, Hearts has seen a little progress. Several blocks are ready to stitch, and more are in the works.

I would like to have 60 of the 120 required  blocks finished by month’s end. 45 are already complete, so that seems doable.

Month five of Happy Hexies arrived this week.

They’ve been cut out and are ready to prep the Hexies.

The third UFO that I worked on was #9, Liberty Periodical. You can see that one in my previous post.

I am moving right along with Designer 2018 BOM, a 2020 start. This is number four, and five is cut out and ready for stitching.

I finally dug out a pic of Roxie and started working on her for the Readers rug.

This is difficult for me, and I can only work on it a little at the time.

Mattie is overseeing my progress on the two Appliquéd Mary Brown blocks that are my OMG for this month.

I will hopefully have them done by the 30th, when we all show our progress.  Since I will be going to NC for Eric’s Master Rug Hooking Class on the 28th, I decided that waiting until the last minute wasn’t a great idea.

Slow Sunday Stitching

Joining in on my first Slow Sunday Stitching for 2020. I have spent a lot of time quilting and organizing this week, so today was a good day to prop my feet up and enjoy a little cross stitching.

Here is where I am on Mary Oakley...

I am about 1/3 of the way done . This is my first time stitching on 40 ct. Linen and I love the way that it looks. Linking up with Kathy at Slow Sunday Stitching. Go on over and see what everyone is working on.

This week I’ve completed 2 more 2018 Mystery Designer BOM blocks. 

They are pretty simple to construct. I love the way the cute text fabric is used in the center of each block.

These are the last three pieced Liberty Periodical blocks.

Now only two appliquéd blocks to finish.

The vines are now appliquéd on the December blocks. I can now move on to the January blocks. The pieces and background are cut out and awaiting final prepping and then appliqué . 


Now this is the truth.....LOL.

Quilty UFO Plan

I read about this UFO busting plan here.  Projects Half Done in 2020.

I figured it was worth a shot. You set up a group of UFOs that you would like to finish (nothing new here) and also agree to finish any starts made in the current year (unless it is a sal or BOM that extends into the next year). You can switch out the UFOs you finish, but you need to be finishing things. There is a Linky check in twice a month (1st & 15th) over at quiltinggail.wordpress.com to help with accountability. I am in. I will try anything. I will not count all of my quilting UFOs, but I will list these 14.

1. Hearts by Sarah Edgar Pretty Fabrics and Trims.

Started in 2019; requires 120 blocks; 48 blocks completed. My fabrics from stash.

2. Pecking Order by Missouri Star Quilt Company

Started in 2019; needs borders. Had to order border fabric (below), put top away and never finished. My fabrics from stash/ ordered border as nothing in stash suitable.


3. Farm Girl Sampler by Lori Holt started 2015.

Requires 48  six inch finished blocks.

Started assembling Row 1; 4 of 6 blocks finished and joined; 11 other blocks completed. Needs 33 more blocks, setting and borders. Fabrics from stash except green pin dot background and setting.

4. Home Sampler by Kathy Schmitz, started 2018, I think.

Embroidery with Valdani thread. Nearly finished with embroidery; will pull fabric to make a small wall hanging. All will be from stash including thread.

5. Milkweed, pattern by Michelle McKillop, BOM from Homestead Hearth, started 2018.

Completed 4 of 12 Flower and 1/2 Flower blocks using kitted fabrics except for Flower block centers, which I have salvaged from old embroidered linens. Have completed just a few of the 320 -2/12” pinwheels required.

6.  10th Anniversary PG SAL, started 2014.

I had totally forgotten about this one. Looks like I only completed the sweet little wool appliqué block in the center and pulled fabric from stash for the rest.

7. Oak Leaves and Pomegranates BOM from Jan Patek, started 2012.

This one is machine appliquéd using buttonhole stitch. 7 blocks are finished, 5 are prepped and one is still in the package. 

This is the only photo I could find of the finished quilt.

8. Levens Hall by Kim McLean, started 2018.

This is where I am on it. It is EPP. All of the blocks are made and I need to finish construction.

9.  Liberty Periodical by Sarah Edgar Pretty Fabrics and Trims, started 2019.

This is where I was a couple of months ago. Since then I’ve finished two more appliqué and pieced blocks. I lack 3 more pieced blocks and 2 hand appliquéd blocks, then construction. I purchased the pink linen and the Liberty fabrics came as a BOM.

10. God Bless America by Temecula Quilt Shop, started 2019.

All of the 388 1/2 sq triangles are made and the sections are mostly assembled. These were all from my scrapsaver stash system.

The finishing kit came from Temecula. It is cut and ready to sew. The kit was short some fabric that I had to wait for, I put it aside and you know the rest.

11.  Snowflake Angel by Crabapple Hill, started maybe 2016.

Bought everything for this one and only made a tiny start on the embroidery.


12. Prairie Burgoyne, BOM from Temecula Quilts, started 2014. 

Finished the pieced blocks and assembled last year and started appliqué. Lack border appliqué and construction of top.

13. Santa Please Stop Here BOM by Sarah Edgar Pretty Fabrics and Trims.

Started 2019, First two months of nine done. Multiple techniques used including  hand appliqué , EPP, embroidery, and machine piecing.

14. BBD Baskets, started a long time ago.

Will add some 9 patches and a few more plain blocks, then a little appliqué on the border and call it done.

This is a pretty hefty list. I organized these UFOs together in my cubbies so that I don’t have to search for them.I also have a few ongoing projects that I am working on. More on those in another post.

This beautiful girl.....

Was accepted into her number one choice of colleges today....the University of Colorado/ Boulder! So far away, but she is so excited. And I am very proud of her.
