Another Slow Stitching Sunday .....

Has almost come and gone.

The morning found me finishing the week's Lucy Boston POC block on the back porch. Kathy requested that we photograph our stitching where we were working. No problem there, I post many photos from my favorite spot here.

The late afternoon was spent honoring the memory of a dear cousin in a town where I spent much of my childhood, and so I am late posting tonight.

This is Lucy Boston #22.....
It is a simple but very sweet block. I worried a bit about losing those outside light colored honeycombs into the background, but the little stripe and central flowers were able to stand out just enough.

Lucy Boston #23....
And a little setting block with this one.  Sometimes there isn't enough fabric to garner one of these, and so I have been cutting two from the fabric scraps of some blocks.

As the month draws to a close, I don't really feel that I have been very productive, but sometimes it helps to write it down.
* completed two hooked purses at Kathie's class
*6 Sampler blocks for RSC 2015 (3 for this month and 3 to catch up)
*1 green wonky star block
*2 green Postage Stamp star blocks
*Embroidered Santa on one Christmas block
*hooking on Little Scrappers dog rug
* QOV blocks for Sew Crazies (20+)
*6 Lucy Boston POC blocks.......plus I have cut out about ten or twelve more.

So, only two real finishes, but lots of bits and pieces.  This month I will go to rug camp for a week...and start yet another new project. But that is what you do at rug camp. I will try to keep up with my goal of one Lucy block per week, and to keep up with the RSC2015 blocks (light blue is the new color of the month). And I will finish the Little Scrappers rug.....I only lack binding it. Anything else will be icing on the cake.

Hope all of you out there in blogland have a wonderful week ahead.

Finishing Green

Finished the last two RSC Green blocks for May and linking up over at So Scrappy.

Other than these two blocks, my only stitching for the week was Lucy Boston. Will post those tomorrow.  Yard work and gardening seem to take the forefront this time of the year.

These Seven Sisters roses were started a few years ago from small runners we dug off the side of the road. They are beautiful now, covering our entire span of fence here.
Close up of the clusters, each with seven roses.

This bed of Verbena was also the result of road side scanvenging.

And we dug up expired gardenias in this bed and replaced them with these hostas and ferns. They are already filling out.

Part of my favorite verse...

Memorial Day

To all of those brave men and women who so unselfishly gave their lives for you and me.....Thank You is just never enough. And we cannot forget those who served and continue to serve. God bless them all.

This week has been full with little time for stitching. What time there was involved working on my Lucy WIP (linking up with WIPs be Gone). I cut about ten blocks and got three basted....very time consuming.

Consequently, I didn't get my block for last week made. I am working on that today.

Buddy doesn't adore Poppy. He tolerates her at best. He doesn't understand her blind bumbling. She, on the other hand, desires his company. You have to give him credit for effort here.

Roxie is loving her treat.  She did away with it in short order.

The Horne children celebrated at their family birthday cook out yesterday.
Macy is nine.
And Jackson is six.

Hope you all had a great holiday!!  Choose happiness!

Dogwood ATHA Rugshow

Meant to post these a couple of days ago, but it just wasn't meant to be. This isn't all of the rugs that were in the show, as I was late getting photos. I apologize that I don't know who the artist was on many of the rugs, as there was a contest to choose your favorite rug and the names were beneath the rugs.

I believe the stool on the left is Barbara Springer's. It is a Tish Murphy design. Don't know about the cute hexagon stool on the right.

This beauty is an original design based on an antique coverlet. Designed and hooked by Diane Gill. Definitely on my to do list.

Don't know who LM is, but I love this rug.

Cute and whimsical...hooker and designer unknown.

This beauty is Sunny Splendor by Linda Bell.

Hooked by Sheri Bennett, this wonderful rug was designed by Michelle Micarelli.

Vicky Gusler adapted this wonderfully primitive design from a quilt pattern by Jan Patek.

Don't know whose this is, but I love it. Anything with a dog sends me over the moon.

Another unknown...bright and cheery.

Also unknown . Lots of interesting things to see on this one.

Crock by Nancy Diegel...designer unknown. She has done two of these great pieces.

Lovely Christmas runner...unknown.

I don't love brights, but I love this rug. Unknown.

I believe this is one of Sheri Bennett's scrap rugs. They are great.

More primitive 9 square version of American Fancies. Designed by Eric Sandberg, hooked by Nancy Diegel.

Hope you enjoyed!

No, we haven't lost one of our dogs, I just love this.

Brain Cancer Awareness Month

May is brain cancer awareness month. Brain cancer is supposed to be fairly rare, but as I look around, it is hard for me to believe.

My son in law, Rob Estes, was diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma in August, 2013. In the prime of life, he and his beautiful family now know all too much about brain cancer.
Easter 2015

There has been no significant change in the treatment of Glioblastoma brain cancer in twenty years.

One of my best friends in high school died of Glioblastoma several years ago.
Beverly was a beautiful, kind woman who touched many lives for Christ before her passing.

Pam, a dear friend that I worked with for many years, was recently diagnosed with Glioblastoma and Astrocytoma and is in the midst of her valiant battle against the beast.
Pam with Coach Vince Dooley at the recent Can't Never Could Fundraiser.

My nurse friend Kitty's husband has undergone treatment for another type of brain cancer this year.
He is 72, back at work full time and tending his roses.

And there is sweet, beautiful Keris, who just turned six and started her battle soon after Rob's diagnosis.

These folks and their families want nothing more than to live their lives each day with as much joy, love and hope as possible.  Brain cancer sucks. There is no nice way to say it.

If you would like to see what the Estes family is doing through their non profit Can't Never Could, visit www.cantnevercould.org.  And to see what Keris's family is doing to support children with cancer, visit Keris Kares on Facebook.

You can help, too. Donate, volunteer, fix a meal, say a kind word, send a card, pray. Remember that for all of these families, one day was normal, and then their whole world changed.

Dogwood ATHA Guild Activities

Last week the Dogwoid ATHA Guild, whose members come from the greater Atlanta area to Tennessee and Alabama, hosted their Spring class and Hook In.
As always, it was a full, busy week spent doing the things we love best....hooking, eating, socializing, learning new things and shopping.

Kathie Meyers taught an incredible class on making hooked purses. What was most remarkable was that most of us came away with our purses completed!!

Kathie showing off three of her many samples.

Jackie's hooked portion.
Laura's beautiful brights.
Diane's Hit or Miss.
Vicky's circles.
Linda's Hit or Miss and matching outfit.
And my circles and Pennies with floral hooking. Just for the record, I hooked my circles as a sample before class, so only had to construct that one.

Sorry, I missed a few.  Love this versatile pattern and plan to make more.

On Saturday, Kathie treated us to a fascinating journey through her life as a hooker. I got some photos of just a few of the great rugs she shared.

Since this post is pretty photo intense, I will save the rug show till tomorrow. Please forgive the quality of my iPhone photos.
